“Life goes on in an environment; not merely in it but because of it…with its interchanges with its environment…in the most intimate way”

What is a Connoisseur?

When someone is qualified to make “fine-grained discriminations among complex and subtle qualities” (Eisner, 1991, p. 63) they can call themselves a connoisseur.

To be a connoisseur of wine, for example, you need to be able to develop your skills of perception through practice and time. Only then can you make distinctions in the subtle nuances, qualities, and characteristics of a specific wine based on experiences with other wines.

Educational criticism and connoisseurship is an aesthetic based approach seeking improvement in the real world or for something we care deeply about or have an intense interest in (Saxe & Uhrmacher, 2016, p. 1) through heightened perception (Eisner, 1991, p. 215).

Why are we your Canine Connoisseurs?

Being a Colorado native, the creation of Canine Connoisseurs comes from Melanie’s deep passion for and investment in improving the quality of lived experiences for people in the Mile High and Beyond who have canine companions.

When we publicly share our act of connoisseurship, we act as critics.

Our Hopes & Goals?

Our hope is to share what we see as “art” in local beverages, dining experiences, trails, and other lived experiences for people with canine companions in the Mile High and Beyond while offering our critics.
