Mister Oso Dog Friendly Patio

A Cocktail Haven in Denver’s Front Range:

Nestled in the scenic Front Range region of Lakewood, Colorado, just a few blocks from the fantastic hiking trails at Green Mountain, Ballmer Peak Distillery is a hidden gem that offers an unparalleled experience for cocktail enthusiasts. Jon and I first visited this distillery in our neighborhood when it opened in 2019. This tiny distillery has made leaps and bounds in the few short years it has been open and is serving up some seriously fancy and delicious craft cocktails. The cozy, mid century mod inspired tasting room serves up small batch spirits and cocktails. This local distillery boasts an impressive array of unique, fun, and delicious libations crafted by their head distiller and talented bartender. From the moment you step into the distillery, you’ll be transported to a world where expert mixology and canine companionship seamlessly blend together.

Cocktails that Speak Latin:

As a global critic and connoisseur of Latin cocktails, I can attest that Mister Oso masters the art of mixology in the most sensational way. From traditional classics to innovative creations, each sip invites you to explore the spirited depths of Latin America’s libation culture. Indulge in one of their signature congelados del dia (or frozen cocktail of the day). Served in an adorable honey bar jar, the soft and sweet, but not too sweet, dreamsicle like frozen bevi topped with sliced almonds and coconut had me swaying like I was posted up in a hammock with the calm breezes of caribbean salt tickling my face.

A Symphony of South American Flavors:

Mister Oso’s menu showcases the culinary traditions of South America with a contemporary twist. As a Colorado Native and Hispanic, I must be clear that this is not New Mexican Mexican food (pork green chili and pinto beans like you get in a Santiago’s burrito or street tacos like Los Carboncitos). Mister Oso is a haven for adventurous palates seeking new tastes and exquisite combinations of Latin traditionals. Come with an open mind and without preconceived notions of what tacos or Latin fare should be, and your palate will be happy.

Enter vibrant colors and authentic flavors of dishes such as the tender and succulent short rib birria tacos with melted cheese, onions, cilantro, salsa roja, and consommé. While you still get the signature color of the meat of birria tacos in Jalisco or Baja California, the crispness of the tortilla and pieces of the tender slow cooked meat, and the mess, you also will note the heavy smoke flavor of the meat. Think roadside KC BBQ combined with traditional birria flavors. Rolo dog was drooling for more of that porky goodness.

If meat is not your thing, perhaps, immerse yourself in the adventurous happy hour death bear nachos with rattlesnake cheddar, black bean eschabeche, pickled onion and jalpenos, gooseberry habanero salsa, queso, and crema for $8. Jon typically does not eat nachos, but he happily gobbled down more than half of this and even ate some of the queso and beans. He appreciated that the queso was at the bottom of the nachos and not drenching it on the top.

Design for the Eyes:

As Canine Connoisseurs, we understand the importance of capturing aesthetics through our lens. When you pull up at Mister Oso Wash Park, you are greeted by a lime green building and a vine shaded patio with bright blue metal chairs. The interior design, alone, commands attention and deserves to be documented through the lens.

I LOVE good design in bathrooms. When you pop in the washroom, the bright leaf patterned wallpaper sets images of dancing salsa in Puerto Rico ablaze in your mind. I would love to have had my equipment to photograph the interior design in this place, but I used my iPhone (sometimes the less intrusive to the business and other patrons is better).

Professionalism and Style in Every Detail:

Beyond the captivating flavors, eye-catching presentations, and interior design, Mister Oso stands out for its dog friendly patio, exceptional service, professionalism, and attention to detail. The East facing patio is an excellent option, tucked away from any busy streets, where your dog companions can chill and enjoy the good eats and chill neighborhood vibes. And, whether you’re a regular patron or an adventurous newcomer, the knowledgeable staff at Mister Oso will guide you through their menu with passion and flair, elevating your dining experience to new heights.
